The fastest and the most convenient way to travel to and around Greece is by aeroplane. National air carrier Olympic Airlines provide the bulk of the air transportation services in Greece with regular flights to and from 34 domestic airports in mainland Greece and the islands, as well as to and from all major US, European, Australian, Far Eastern, Middle Eastern Asian and North African cities.

Several Greek privately owned airlines have entered the market offering regular flights to major Greek and European destinations. There are also 48 international carriers operating in Greece providing mostly international connections. Greece has an extensive domestic network of 78 airports, 39 of which are international.

Congress participants will arrive by air at the Athens International Airport (A.I.A.) "Eleftherios Venizelos" operating as a hub for the South-eastern Europe.

The island of Kos is connected to Athens both by air (recommended) and sea schedules daily during low and high tourist season. More specifically, there are at least 6 daily flights departing from A.I.A. (Athens International Airport) to Kos starting early in the morning (06:00) until late in the afternoon (21:00). The flight takes around a 35 minute journey. International flights arrive primarily from the UK, Netherlands, Germany and the Middle East.

Direct charter flights land on Kos from all major European cities while Olympic Airlines and Aegean Airlines, operate daily flights from Athens and Thessaloniki to Kos Island.

By sea, congress participant can enjoy daily connections from the port of Piraeus by High-Speed Boats. Duration of travel is estimated from five to seven hours.

Congress Secretariat has made provisional reservations on several flights to / from Kos Island. Should you require further information or assistance in booking your flights, please contact us at flights@wscts2008.com. Moreover, chartered flights from/to Athens will be organised by congress secretariat to serve the participants requirements. In the meantime please find below the current domestic connections of scheduled flights operating from Athens to Kos and vice versa, for one day before and one day after the congress dates. It is highly recommended to book your flights at your earliest convenience.

Visa Formalities

Greece follows the Schengen Agreement provisions and the subsequent acquits concerning short term visa issues. Countries applying the Schengen acquis in full (EU countries: Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Luxembourg, The Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, plus associated countries: Iceland and Norway) follow a common visa policy for short-term stays of up to three (3) months in the Schengen area. The citizens of these countries are not subjected to border controls within the common area (airlines or other carriers require identification - I.D. Card or passport or any other piece of identification issued by a public authority).

Citizens of the following EU and other European countries do not need a visa to enter Greece (and the Schengen area). They have only to produce a passport or an I.D. card at the border.

Holders of regular passports from the rest of the world need a visa in order to enter Greece (and the Schengen area).

NOTE: When travelling to Greece on a tourist visa, visitors are required to have travel insurance that covers cases of medical or other emergencies for the duration of the stay.
